On-street visitor parking permits

From 1 April 2023, Surrey County Council will be responsible for on-street parking. Find out more about the changes.

Residents who live in Brookwood, West Byfleet or Woking controlled parking zones can apply for visitor parking permits.

Each permit is valid for one calendar day only and must be validated by writing the vehicle registration in the space provided and scratching off the year, month and date of use. The permit must be clearly displayed in the vehicle or a penalty charge notice may be issued.

The cost is £2 each or £10 for a book of five permits. Residents aged 60 years or over are entitled to a 50% discount upon proof of age.

We will issue a maximum of five books per day only and 120 permits per annum. If you apply for more books, a refund will be made for the additional payments and you will not receive any further permits.

Who cannot apply

Visitor permits are not available for residents who live in Woking controlled parking zone 1 or the West Byfleet central controlled parking zone. Some apartments are also ineligible due to the pressure on road space within the controlled parking zone (CPZ).

The principle of the visitor permit scheme is to provide parking for occasional visitors to the resident’s home, such as family, contractors etc, not for daily use, commuter or business purposes.

How to apply

To apply, you will need:

  • proof of residency for the address you are applying for
  • credit or debit card.

Accepted proof of residency would be a document with your name and address and dated within the last three months, such as a:

  • utility bill
  • bank statement
  • letter from your pension provider or the NHS.

If you have just moved, we can accept a letter from your solicitor. You will receive a confirmation email stating when the permits can be collected, which may be up to five working days after you have submitted the application. We respectfully ask for your patience whilst we process your permits as soon as we can.

How to collect your visitor permits

The Civic Offices are open for essential pre-booked appointments only. Therefore, you cannot collect permits from the Civic Offices.

Visitor permits will not be sent by post as delivery cannot be guaranteed.

Residents can collect permits from our car park control room in the Woking town centre Victoria Place car park complex, which is open 24 hours.

We can also arrange for permits to be hand delivered to residents in Brookwood or West Byfleet where easy access to the front door is available.

About your visitor permits

Visitor permits must be used during the hours of restrictions. Outside the restriction times a permit is not required.

Once purchased they can be kept until required even if the year shown on them has passed, in which case write the year of use in the adjoining space.
