What happens if you do not pay your business rates

Our online services are now working. However, we're currently dealing with a high volume of Council Tax and Housing Benefits enquiries. Please bear with us whilst we work through the backlog.

If you have recently received a letter from us, please scan the QR code where available to complete your transaction. You can still make online payments

What it means if you receive one or more reminder letters from us for unpaid business rates.

Reminder

You will receive a reminder letter if you do not pay your business rates on time, or you do not pay at all.

The reminder letter will ask you to make a payment within seven days and to make your future payments on time.

Continue to make payments

You must pay the missed instalment and continue to pay your other instalments on time. You might also want to consider other ways to pay, such as setting up a direct debit or changing your instalment date.

Reduce the amount owed

If you’re unable to pay the monthly instalments, you should pay as much as you can each month to reduce the unpaid balance. Please note this does not stop our recovery process and a court summons for non-payment may be issued.
