When and how to pay your business rates

About your business rates (non-domestic rates) bill

Your annual bill tells you:

  • how much you have to pay for the year
  • how that amount has been worked out
  • the date you have to pay your monthly instalments

Late payments

If you make a payment more than seven days after your set instalment date, your payment will be considered late. At this point, we will start sending you reminder letters to collect the unpaid amount.

Ways to pay your business rates

If you’re struggling to make payment or pay on time, please consider the following options.

Pay by direct debit

Set up a direct debit which allows us to take the payment from your bank account on the same date each month.

Pay online

Make an immediate payment online to reduce or clear the full amount owed.

Spread your instalments over 12 months

Business rates instalments are automatically calculated over 10 months. To reduce your monthly instalment amount, you can request to spread your payments over 12 months.

Instalments can only be amended within the current financial year, which starts each April and finishes the following March.
