Free food for residents referred by a professional service

You must be referred by a local service to get free food and support from Woking Foodbank. 

Local referring organisations include: 

  • Citizen Advice Bureau
  • Job Centre Plus
  • Woking Borough Council
  • Surrey County Council 
  • NHS health centres
  • probation services
  • housing associations
  • schools and churches
  • church and faith groups

Woking Foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust, a network of foodbanks and support services available across the UK.

Free food for residents who are struggling to buy food (no referral needed)

‘Community fridges’ are voluntary groups which receive donated food to help reduce food waste. Food is given to residents who are finding it hard to pay for food. 

Available food usually includes fresh, frozen, cupboard and general items. These change each week and with the seasons. 

Barnsbury: The Lighthouse Community Fridge

No-cost and low-cost food clubs and cafes

Goldsworth Park: Andy’s Community Café

The cafe sells barista coffees, teas, cakes and snacks. It also offers a ‘pay as you feel’ menu where you pay what you can afford.

If you need a free coffee or meal, you can take a button from the pot and hand it to the cashier as payment. The buttons are pre-paid donations from other customers.

Sheerwater: ShopWise Eco Food Club

ShopWise Eco Food Club is a weekly food club which charges a low-cost per visit. Each week you pay £3 to choose 10 food items, plus a selection of vegetables or fruits.

The café offers it unsold food on the Too good to go app. It also offers free teas, coffees and toast paid for by its customer donation system, called ‘pay it forward’.

This not-for-profit café sells meals, drinks and snacks. If you need a free coffee or meal, you can take a button from the pot and hand it to the cashier as payment. The buttons are pre-paid donations from other customers  .
