Council Tax Support
If you’re on a low income or claim Universal Credit, you may qualify for Council Tax Support. This is a means-tested benefit, and it depends on your personal circumstances.
Discounts, reductions or exemptions
There are some circumstances where you may be entitled to apply for a discount, reduction or exemption, including:
- single person discount for residents living on their own
- annex discount for close residents living with family in an annex
- not counted ('people disregarded') discount for students, prisoners, people with severe mental impairment, people in care and other circumstances
- hardship reduction for residents without assets and an income
- disability reduction for people with a permanent and substantial disability and certain living arrangements
- carer leaver's reduction for young people under 25 year olds leaving care
- low income reduction for those on benefits
- exemptions for vacant properties owned or occupied by people in certain situations and groups
- exemptions for occupied properties used by certain individuals and groups
Council Tax discounts, reductions and exemptions are not automatically applied to your bill. If you qualify, you can apply online.
