May 2025 county election delayed
On 5 February 2025, the Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, The Rt. Hon. Angela Rayner MP announced in Parliament that elections to Surrey County Council will be delayed for 1 year.
The next Surrey County Council election will take place on Thursday 7 May 2026. Delaying the May 2025 election will allow the detailed work for devolution and local government reorganisation to take place.

By-elections
A by-election is usually held to fill a ‘casual vacancy’ which occurs on either the death or resignation of a councillor. An election would not be held if that councillor was due to retire within 6 months.
Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner elections
Police and Crime Commissioners (PCC) are elected every 4 years. The next PCC election will take place in May 2028.
The Police and Crime Commissioner is responsible for setting the strategic objectives for policing in Surrey. This includes setting and updating a police and crime plan, setting the force budget and precept, and appointing, and where necessary dismissing, the Chief Constable.
