Gas servicing and fire safety

Gas servicing

As your landlord, we have a statutory duty to annually inspect the gas mains and appliances in your home. This is to ensure that they remain in a safe and efficient condition.

We will contact you by letter when your appliances are due servicing. In the unlikely event that your appliances have not been serviced within the last 12 months, please contact us.

It is important that you provide access for our engineers by keeping this appointment or by contacting us as soon as possible to rearrange if it is not convenient.  The team can be contacted on 0300 373 0373 and select 'option one'.

If you have a pre-pay electric or gas meter, please ensure you have credit when the engineer arrives.

Failure to not keep the agreed appointments could result in the disconnection of the gas supply, court action and rechargeable costs.

Carbon monoxide

Carbon monoxide is a poisonous gas that can kill quickly. You cannot see it or smell it, but if you breathe it in you will rapidly become tired and dizzy, possibly with head and chest aches.

If you have a carbon monoxide alarm you must test it regularly, and do not paint it or cover it up. If the alarm sounds or you think carbon monoxide may be escaping you should contact our repairs team immediately and open all doors and windows.

The team can be contacted on 0300 373 0373 and select 'option one'.

Fire safety

If you discover a fire, you should make sure that you are safe before calling 999.

To reduce the risk of fire in your home:

  • never leave cigarettes burning
  • never smoke in bed
  • keep matches away from children
  • never leave a chip pan unattended
  • regularly check your smoke alarm and batteries.

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service offer free home fire risk checks. To book your fire risk check, please phone 0800 085 0767.
