Any interested party wishing to object to an application has 28 days starting the day after the application has been given to the council. In other words, the day the application is advertised. Objections must relate to the four licensing objectives.
If there is an objection, a hearing of the licensing committee (which consists of 10 elected local authority members) will be held within 20 days unless all parties agree that a formal hearing is unnecessary.
A person cannot make objections anonymously. This is because, for example, we need to be satisfied that the person making the objection is not being vexatious. It is also important that an applicant can respond to an objection.
