Driver’s licence renewal

A driver’s licence is normally granted for three years. Applicants over 60, or holders of a yearly C1 licence where medicals have to be obtained, will have to apply for a licence annually.

You will need to complete a new Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check with every three-year renewal. You also need to pass a medical every five years up until 60 years of age and every year after that.

Renewal fees

  • Three-year licence renewal with new medical examination costs £330*
  • Three-year licence renewal without medical examination costs £313

* Medical certificates are valid for five years. So, when applying for your first renewal, you will not need to undertake a new medical examination.

Please note we will process the DBS and DVLA forms with the relevant agencies.  The DBS check is usually the longest part of the application progress and often takes a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks to be processed by the DBS. Please note it is only valid for three months from date of issue.

Step 2

If applicable, get a Group Two Medical Examination Report completed by your doctor (GP). Please make sure questions two to four in section one are fully complete.

Please note this report is valid for six months from the issue date.

Step 3

If you pass the checks, you will be required to pay for your driver’s licence before it can be issued.
