Nominations now open for the 2022 Sport Woking Awards

Nominations for the 2022 Sport Woking Awards opened this week (Monday 26 September 2022).

The annual awards scheme recognises the wealth of sporting talent within the borough and celebrate those who play a vital role in helping others to achieve their personal best.

From top performing athletes to Sunday morning volunteers, this year there are eight award categories to reflect the borough’s diverse sport and fitness scene:

  • Young Sports Personality of the Year
  • Sports Personality of the Year
  • Inclusive Sports Award
  • Outstanding Service to Sport
  • Community Contribution of the Year
  • Team of the Year
  • Health and Wellbeing Champion
  • Volunteer of the Year – new for 2022

The Sport Woking Awards are co-ordinated by Woking Borough Council and supported by a host of award sponsors which this year include Boz’s Fruit and Veg, Seymours Woking, Freedom Leisure and the Woking News and Mail.

Cllr Ellen Nicholson, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing, said: “Physical activity is so important for our health and mental wellbeing. Sport and fitness brings people together, creates opportunities and gives participants the chance to succeed at something they enjoy.

This deserves to be celebrated, along with the people who inspire, motivate and make competitive sport happen.

“The growing list of Sport Woking Award winners includes sprinter, Tyler Panton; Woking FC defender, Josh Casey; and Judo coach, Vince Skillcorn. I’m excited to review this year’s entries and to hear about the achievements of our nominees.

“The awards recognise success at every level, from fulfilling a personal goal to competing on an international stage, so if you know someone who has done something great this year, please put them forward for a Sport Woking Award.”

You have until midday on Friday 25 November to nominate your sporting heroes for a 2022 Sport Woking Award.

Award winners with be notified during December and announced in the Woking News and Mail in January 2023. Winners receive a personalised trophy and other sponsored prizes.
