Council Tax empty property charges 2024/2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN pursuant to Section 80 of the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023, which amends the Local Government Finance Act 1992, that, at their meeting on the 4 March 2024, Woking Borough Council as Billing Authority for the areas of the said Borough and in accordance with the said Act, set for the financial year beginning 1 April 2025, that

The amount of Council Tax payable in respect of dwellings occupied periodically will be increased by 100%, where there is no resident in the dwelling and the dwelling is substantially furnished.

NOTICE ALSO HEREBY GIVEN pursuant to Section 79 of the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023, which amends the Local Government Finance Act 1992, set for the financial year beginning 1 April 2025, that

The amount of Council Tax payable in respect of long-term empty dwellings will be increased by 100% where the dwelling has been empty for 12 months or more, increasing to 200% for dwellings which have been long-term empty for five years or more and increasing to 300% for dwellings which have been long-term empty for 10 years or more.
