Council Tax empty property review

We are required by law to keep up-to-date Council Tax records for all domestic properties located in Woking borough.

Empty property and second home premiums

Government legislations allows us to apply a Council Tax premium on properties that have been unoccupied and substantially unfurnished for a period of two years or more.

From 1 April 2025 this premium will be added after one year, instead of two years. A new premium will also be added for furnished properties that are unoccupied or are nobody’s only or main home.

If you have received a letter from us

On our behalf, NEC Software Solutions, have recently written to property owners who are listed in our records as owning an empty (unoccupied) property. These are properties that are unoccupied and largely unfurnished.

Owners of properties that are furnished and are unoccupied, or nobody’ sole or main home, have also been contacted.

How to respond to the review letter

You have been asked to declare if your property remains empty (unoccupied). The easiest and quickest way to do this is online.

Make an empty or second home declaration

Another way to respond is by completing the self-complete sections included within the letter.

Completed paper declarations should be posted to: Empty Property Review, PO Box 152, Twickenham, TW2 6XZ

If you require help or have any questions

Please contact NEC Software Solutions if you:

  • are unable to complete the online or paper forms
