Report a dangerous building

How to report a building that you think is in a dangerous condition, including emergency reporting.

Buildings that fall into serious disrepair can be dangerous. This includes those affected by a sudden fire, storm, explosion or vehicle impact.

If you are concerned about a building, please report it.

To report a dangerous building, including in an emergency, telephone 01483 743 841 during office hours (9am to 5pm) and 01483 755 855 outside office hours.

What happens next

Once we receive a report, we will inspect the building and decide whether to:

  • take immediate action
  • contact the owner and agree a timescale for making the property safe

This may be enforced by a court order if the owner fails to take action.

Emergency works

If emergency work is required, we will work with the fire, police and highways agency to:

  • erect fencing
  • close roads
  • organise demolition works if appropriate
