On 9 July 2024 the Chief Executive, under authority delegated by the Council on 11 February 2016 and in consultation with an Independent Remuneration Panel, amended Woking Borough Council’s scheme for members’ allowances, all in accordance with the Local Authorities (Members’ Allowances) (England) Regulations 2003.
The Chief Executive, under delegated authority, determined that the Basic Allowance for Members in the 2023/24 Municipal Year be maintained at £7,380 and Special Responsibility Allowances (SRA) for 2023/24 be allocated as follows:
- Leader of the Council £12,000
- Deputy Leader of the Council £3,600 (30% of the Leader SRA)
- Leader of the Opposition £1,200 (10% of the Leader SRA)
- Other Executive Members £2,400 (20% of the Leader SRA)
- Planning Committee Chair £2,400 (20% of the Leader SRA)
- Overview and Scrutiny Committee Chair £1,200 (10% of the Leader SRA)
- Licensing Committee Chair £600 (5% of the Leader SRA)
- Group Leader £600 (5% of the Leader SRA)
Following the Review of the Council Meeting Structure agreed by the Council on 28 March 2024, the Chief Executive, under delegated authority, determined that the Basic Allowance for Members in the 2024/25 Municipal Year be maintained at £7,380 and Special Responsibility Allowances remain prorated to the Leader Special Responsibility Allowance for 2024/25.
Special Responsibility Allowances (SRA) for 2024/25 be allocated as follows:
- Leader of the Council £12,000
- Deputy Leader of the Council £3,600 (30% of the Leader SRA)
- Leader of the Opposition £1,200 (10% of the Leader SRA)
- Other Executive Members £2,400 (20% of the Leader SRA)
- Planning Committee Chair £2,400 (20% of the Leader SRA)
- Scrutiny Committee Chair £1,200 (10% of the Leader SRA)
- Licensing Committee Chair £600 (5% of the Leader SRA)
- Employment Committee Chair £600 (5% of the Leader SRA)
- Group Leader £600 (5% of the Leader SRA)
The amended Scheme has effect for the Municipal Year 2024/25.
Copies of the Scheme of Allowances payable to Members, and records of payments made in accordance with it, are available for inspection by members of the public by appointment between 9am and 4.45pm at the Civic Offices, Gloucester Square, Woking, Surrey GU21 6YL.
