Hale End Court celebrates first anniversary

Hale End Court, the Council’s award-winning Extra Care Scheme in Old Woking, celebrated its first anniversary last week.

Since opening in November 2021, Hale End Court has become home to 48 residents, who occupy the fully adapted apartments, and can accommodate up to 15 day care guests per day.

Cllr Ellen Nicholson, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Living Well, said: “Hale End Court has been a huge success and allowed us to significantly expand our day care offer.

“With its large communal area, onsite café and dementia-friendly facilities, there’s no need for anyone to be cold or alone this winter. So, if you know anyone who may benefit from a visit, please get in touch.”

The day care facilities are suitability adapted and each day, residents can enjoy a hot and tasty two-course meal, interactive games, arts and crafts, seated exercise, and a changing programme of entertainment. This is as well as external events such as trips to restaurants, garden centres, shopping malls and more. Transport can also be arranged to ensure that all visitors and tenants are supported throughout the day.

Cllr Nicholson continued: “Staff ensure tenants are safe and supported throughout their visit. They are supported with mealtimes, helped with moving around the facility and encouraged to interact with others. This care helps residents overcome loneliness and reconnect with the wider community. This promotes a healthier wellbeing during these challenging times.”

As well as Hale End Court, day care services are also offered at Brockhill in Goldsworth Park. Nick Danny, aged 72, is a day care user. Talking about the service Nick said: “I love coming to Brockhill because they look after me so well here.”

Day care services offered at both centres include:

  • care and assistance provided by support staff at the centres
  • return journey with Bustler, which provides an assisted door-to-door transport service suitable for people with mobility needs
  • option to purchase additional hot drinks and snacks from the café
  • the opportunity to take part in social activities and gentle exercise
  • a hot midday meal
  • accessible toilets and adapted facilities available on site.

Day care is provided between the hours of 10am and 3pm, Monday to Friday.

No referrals are needed to access day care services which are open to all. Charges apply for some activities.
