Julie Fisher, Woking Borough Council’s Chief Executive, said: “Following the incident on Wednesday 20 October, Sir Robert McAlpine’s sub-contractor has completed its check of all exterior panels of the hotel development. McAlpine’s have also completed its initial investigation into the panel failure and is currently considering its findings.
“McAlpine’s immediate focus is to carry out any additional, interim works necessary to enable the reopening of Victoria Way. I fully understand that the ongoing closure is hugely frustrating to road users and how the diversion is significantly impacting on the wider local highway network.
"However, public safety must remain the priority. Victoria Way will only reopen once McAlpine and Surrey Police are satisfied it is safe to do so. Whilst we are unable to provide a reopening date at present, we hope to provide further details as soon as possible.
“Sir Robert McAlpine have apologised for the inconvenience caused and are committed to resolving the current situation.”
