An update from Cllr Ann-Marie Barker, Leader of Woking Borough Council
“I remain committed to keeping you informed with the latest updates on the closure of Victoria Way which I know continues to cause major disruption to everyone travelling through Woking.
“This week, I’m pleased to report that the weather has been favourable which has allowed Sir Robert McAlpine (SRM) to complete the temporary fix to the South and West sides of the hotel building, working seven-days-a-week on site and surpassing the half-way mark of works required.
“In addition, I’m pleased that SRM has now agreed to send a representative to a council scrutiny meeting and an invite will be issued for the Environment and Place Scrutiny committee on Tuesday 4 March 2025.
“I hope that the pressure on the network has eased slightly too since Surrey Highways also changed the phasing of the lights at Forge End. However, I appreciate congestion on the diversion route is still a huge issue.
“I know many of you also have concerns about the long-term solution to this repeated problem. Stakeholders met with cladding experts this week to discuss the urgent permanent solution. I will provide further detail when I know more.
“The priority remains on reopening Victoria Way as soon as it is safe to do so. Work is progressing at pace, but residents should expect that disruption will continue into March.
“Please do read the Frequently asked questions and answers published on the council’s website that we’re updating regularly to address your common queries and be open and transparent with you about this highly frustrating situation.”
Thank you.
Cllr Ann-Marie Barker.
