Parking on Saturdays at Victoria Place will soon become cheaper, following a decision by elected members at last Thursday’s Executive meeting (14 July 2022).
The completion of Victoria Place earlier in the year saw the opening of a range of new stores, including M&S, Skechers, Moss Bros and Gail’s Bakery. More recently, the opening of national fitness brand, Gym Group, has been announced with more leisure brands including Woking Superbowl following in the coming months.
To accommodate visitors the shopping centre has a state of the art 1,556 capacity car park featuring 78 electric charging points, 80 disabled spaces, 54 parent and toddler parking bays and an exclusive M&S ‘click and collect’ area.
The Council’s Executive agreed, subject to a consultation process, to reduce car parking charges (or fees), supporting residents and local business and encouraging visitors to stay longer to take advantage of new retail and, importantly, leisure offerings.
From September, for a limited period, visitors will be able to park for up to three hours for just £3. There is also a reduced rate when parking for between four and five hours.
Cllr Dale Roberts, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Finance, said: “For far too long residents have raised concerns that parking charges in Woking put many off from visiting the town centre.
“The Council needs to support the continued post-pandemic economic recovery of the town, our residents changing needs whilst supporting them at a difficult time given the cost of living challenges while encouraging people to make the most of our growing town centre. I’m delighted to announce this parking charge pilot scheme.
“From September, visitors can take advantage of our vibrant town centre and attractions and park for up to three hours for just £3 in Woking’s Victoria Place Car Park on Saturdays.”
