Local residents are being encouraged to actively participate in local government by submitting their questions on important matters to public council meetings.
Residents can raise questions and concerns about issues that affect their local communities. Whether it’s about new policies, local developments or borough council services, residents’ views are invaluable in shaping the future of our borough.
Questions can be raised at Full Council and Executive meetings throughout the year. All public council meetings are webcast and can be viewed online.
Cllr Ann-Marie Barker, Leader of Woking Borough Council, said: “Our residents' voices are crucial in ensuring that our decisions reflect the needs and priorities of residents.
“I am committed to transparency, accountability and community engagement.
“We welcome all questions, as they help us understand and address the concerns of our community, whilst ensuring that the decision-making process is inclusive and responsive.”
To submit a question for a council meeting, residents:
- must provide their name
- should write a question of up to 100 words.
- if they wish, provide a supporting statement of up to 250 words.
For Council: Questions must be received by 12noon, eight working days before the day of the meeting (for example, if the meeting is held on a Thursday, the deadline would be midday on the Monday a week before).
For Executive: Questions must be received by 12noon seven calendar days before the day of the meeting (for example, if the meeting is held on a Thursday, the deadline would be midday on the Thursday a week before).
Residents will be invited to present their question in person at the meeting or, if they are unable to attend, it can be read out by someone else. One supplementary question, related to the first, may be asked if the questioner attends the meeting.
