Sport Woking Awards 2020 - nominate now!

 The Sport Woking Awards return this winter with new categories that reflect the challenges and triumphs of 2020 and the impact of coronavirus on the borough’s sports scene.

For two decades, the Sport Woking Awards have acknowledged the borough’s sporting successes at grass roots level and all the way up to professional or elite. Double Olympic gold medallist, James Cracknell and modern pentathlete Kate Allenby MBE are among the list of previous award winners and last year, Woking FC left-back and team captain, Josh Casey was crowned Woking’s Sports Personality of the Year.

Nominations are now open for the following categories:

  • Sports Personality of the Year
  • Young Sports Personality of the Year
  • Inclusive Sports Award, sponsored by Freedom Leisure
  • Outstanding Service to Sport, sponsored by Surrey Playing Fields
  • Active Lockdown Challenge of the Year
  • Community Contribution of the Year

Leader of the Council, Cllr Ayesha Azad said: “Having coped with so much disruption over the past 12 months, it’s really important that our sportsmen and women, clubs, coaches and local heroes get the recognition they deserve for their ongoing commitment to their sport and wellbeing of their participants.

“As a nation we've embraced opportunities to keep fit and exercise outdoors like never before. The new 2020 award categories celebrate those who have excelled in the face of adversity, have given their all to fundraise for a good cause or have shown inspirational leadership helping others to achieve their personal best.”

Nominations close at midday on Monday 30 November.

Award winners with be notified during December and if coronavirus measures permit, will be presented with their trophy and a pair of Nova Cinema tickets in January. There are additional prizes for sponsored category award winners provided by Freedom Leisure and Surrey Playing Fields.
