Stay safe and enjoy your fireworks display

We want everyone to be able to enjoy fireworks safely, whether at an organised display or in your back garden.

But it’s important to remember that anti-social behaviour involving fireworks won’t be tolerated.

  • Anyone under 18 cannot legally buy fireworks that would be used at a display at home. If a local retailer is selling adult fireworks to people under 18, please report it to your local Trading Standards team.
  • Unless it’s part of an organised event by licensed professionals, fireworks cannot be used on the street or in a public place. This is an offence, and includes the use of firecrackers, bangers and party poppers. You can report these kind of incidents as they are happening by calling 999.
  • Fireworks can be used in the UK any time from 7am to 11pm, except on Bonfire night when this extends to midnight. On New Year’s Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year this extends to 1am the following morning
  • Used irresponsibly, fireworks can cause damage to property and do significant harm to people and animals. Not only is there a danger from fireworks exploding, they can also pose a serious fire risk as well.
  • If children are setting off fireworks in your area, our first advice is to ask them politely to stop. It’s possible they’re unaware that they are breaking the law. If you know their parents, perhaps ask them to intervene.

Stay safe, and enjoy the fireworks displays you and your family go to over the next couple of weeks.
