Wheelchair accessible taxis – have your say

Woking Borough Council is seeking views from people who live or work in Woking as part of a consultation on wheelchair accessible taxis and how the council can reduce taxi vehicle emissions.

The consultation is open to all residents, licensed drivers and those who work in Woking borough. The survey takes five minutes to complete and aims to gather views on features that are important to people when selecting a licensed taxi, and will inform the council in considering what can be done to reduce emissions following the declaration of a climate emergency.

In 2007, the council adopted a policy requiring all taxis to be wheelchair accessible by March 2020. Last year, the introduction of the policy was deferred by one year following a petition from local taxi drivers. This consultation will ensure that the policy remains relevant and ensures adequate and appropriate taxi provision across the borough.

The survey covers taxis that are accessed via one of the borough’s taxi ranks or hailed as they drive along – it does not apply to private hire vehicles booked in advance.

The survey closes on Friday 18 September 2020 and can be completed online at the following link: www.woking.gov.uk/accessibletaxisurvey
