Woking Leisure Centre set to reopen on Saturday 25 July

Woking Leisure Centre is set to reopen on Saturday 25 July, following recent government advice.

During the past weeks, Freedom Leisure has been preparing to welcome back visitors to Woking Leisure Centre, with the emphasis on reopening safely. Working in partnership with Woking Borough Council, Woking Leisure Centre has developed its reopening plan based on guidance from Government and advice from industry bodies.

In order to control the number of people within the centre and to limit contact between visitors and staff, all activities, including the gym, racquet sports and outdoor 3G football pitches, must now be pre-booked and, in some cases, are time-limited.

Clear signage will be in place to guide visitors around the centre and sessions will be smaller and equipment set apart to allow people to exercise safely and maintain social distancing. Enhanced hygiene measures will be in place, with cleaning between each session and hand sanitizer stations located around the building, whilst visitors are asked to make contactless payments

To support the crucial Test and Trace scheme, visitors will be asked to provide their contact details upon arrival.

Cllr Colin Kemp, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Woking Leisure Centre & Pool in the Park, said: “Exercise is vital for improving and maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle. Therefore the gradual reopening of our leisure facilities is an important step for many members of our community who wish to return to indoor physical activity.

“During lockdown, a large number of Freedom Leisure staff joined council officers in supporting their local community by collecting prescriptions, delivering community meals and food parcels to those shielding and making vital welfare calls to vulnerable residents. Their support was invaluable and we cannot thank them enough. .

“Having now returned to their posts at Woking Leisure Centre, I know they are excited to welcome customers back from Saturday 25 July.”

Ivan Horsfall-Turner, Freedom Leisure’s Managing Director, added: “Freedom Leisure is delighted to be reopening Woking Leisure Centre on Saturday 25 July. Our teams are working hard to make sure the centres are ready and waiting to welcome back the local community, and we look forward to seeing everyone very soon.”

Due to ongoing coronavirus restriction, the centre’s crèche, health suite and soft-play area remains closed to the public.

To support the ongoing programme of renovation and improvement works, Pool in the Park will remain temporarily closed. It is anticipated these works will be complete by early autumn 2020. Meanwhile, Woking Sportsbox is set to welcome back customers from September 2020.
