Date:
Woking, along with the rest of Surrey, will be placed into Tier 2, the High Local COVID Alert Level, from Wednesday 2 December 2020.
In summary, the Tier 2 restrictions mean that:
- You cannot socialise with households indoors, apart from your support bubble.
- You can meet in a group of up to six outside - including in a garden, or a public place.
- Shops, gyms and personal care services (such as hairdressing) can reopen (if COVID-secure).
- Pubs and bars can only open if they serve substantial meals. Alcohol can be served with that meal.
- Sports can resume with up to 2,000 spectators, or 50% capacity (whichever is lower).
- Collective worship, weddings and outdoor sports can resume (with restrictions).
- Non-essential foreign travel allowed, subject to quarantine rules.

Cllr Ayesha Azad, Leader of Woking Borough Council, said: “Firstly, I’d like to send a huge thank you to our residents for following the current lockdown restrictions. Your efforts have helped bring the local infection rate in Woking under control and slow its growth.
“We have, however, been placed in Tier 2 High Alert Level, along with the rest of Surrey. It means that the area has a high rate of infection and there is still much we can do to reduce the levels in our area.
“Preventative measures are still the best way we can avoid infection rate spikes and tighter restrictions to our way of life. We all have a role to play in slowing the spread of the virus by continuing to socially distance, washing our hands, wearing a face covering and by self-isolate and getting tested if you show any symptoms.
“With the festive season approaching, I urge all our communities to continue to be sensible, be mindful of others and to stay safe.”
Hands, face, space
To protect each other and keep our communities safe, we all need to play our part. By continuing to follow the simple guidelines for controlling the virus, we can help reduce infection rates in Woking.
This means you must:
- Wash your hands regularly.
- Sanitise your hands wherever possible.
- Keep your distance from people not in your household - two metres apart where possible.
- Wear a face covering in shops, supermarkets, confined public areas and public transport.
- Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has symptoms.
Got symptoms? Get a test
Anyone who has symptoms of coronavirus, whatever their age, should book a test immediately. It’s important to book a test within the first five days of having symptoms.
To book, visit www.nhs.uk/coronavirus or call 119.
If you test positive for coronavirus you can play your part to help stop the spread of the virus by sharing the contact details of those you have been in contact with. These people will then be alerted by NHS Test and Trace and advised to self-isolate.
