Joint statement by Woking Borough Council and Woking Community Transport on the future of Woking's Town Centre Buggy.
"We regret to announce that after more than 20 years’ service, Woking’s Town Centre Buggy will make its final journey on Friday 31 March 2023.
"Despite best efforts, this difficult decision was made due to dwindling passenger numbers, coupled with increasing running costs and loss of grant funding, that has meant the service is no longer financially viable. Woking town centre visitors with reduced mobility can instead use the services of Woking shopMobility, who can be contacted on 01483 776 612. They offer a range of power scooters, manual and powered wheelchairs that can be hired for a small fee.
"We can confirm that Woking Community Transport’s Bustler dial-a-ride service, which offers a door-to-door transport service for residents with reduced mobility, remains funded and operational. The service can collect passengers from their home and take them to destinations across the borough, including the town centre. The buses are specially adapted to cater for people with all disabilities including those using wheelchairs and assistance dogs. Carers can travel for free. To book your journey, please call 01483 724433.
"We would like to take the opportunity of thanking all those who have used the service over the years."
