Freedom Leisure, operator of Woking Pool in the Park on behalf of Woking Borough Council, is delighted to announce that after a long period of closure the brand new ‘The War of the Worlds’ themed flumes have opened in time for the summer school holiday, with an official launch celebration on Saturday 27 July!
Those who visit the centre and use the flumes on Saturday 27 July will have the opportunity to enter a competition to win themselves and their family free swimming for the whole summer holidays, while also getting the opportunity to meet Freedom Leisure’s Mascot Jim Trainer and enjoy a free fruit shoot (see what we did there) after their swim.
The two flumes which were first installed in the early 90s have been completely replaced after the not-for-profit leisure operator invested over £1million in partnership with the Council. The original flumes were unfortunately decommissioned due to their age but have now been completely replaced, including the stairs and support frame with two distinctive, family-friendly slides offering twists and drops for a thrilling experience for all age groups. They have been named ‘The Martian’ and ‘The Time Traveller’ to honour Woking’s connection to HG Well and his classic ‘The War of the Worlds’, which was written in Woking! The Martian is blue and runs slower for younger children while the striped Time Traveller is faster and more adventurous.
Steve May, Freedom Leisure Area Manager, says: “We are very aware of how loved these flumes are by local children and are therefore delighted to be not only bringing them back into full working order, but also in time for the school holidays. They look great – and the Time Traveller is particularly thrilling! Both start inside but take riders outside the pool hall building but end back in the building.
“These flumes have been a long time coming so we are delighted to be opening them soon and they mark the start of more investment and improvements in the centre which is good news for local residents too!”
