On the morning of Friday 30 August, the Woking Food and Drink Festival 2019 will officially open with a celebratory business showcase of Surrey’s food and drink industry at the WWF-UK Living Planet Centre.
Hosted by Woking Works, and in partnership with Surrey Life Magazine, the event takes place between 9.30am and 11.30am, and boasts an impressive line-up of speakers. These experts in their field are passionate about driving forward the successful and distinctive food scene in our county.
The inspiring panel includes keynote speaker Chris Bavin, presenter of the BBC’s Eat Well for Less. Also speaking will be professional winemaker Nick Wenman owner of Albury Organic Vineyard, plus Surrey cheesemaker, Francis Gimblett, and Matthew Williams of Local Food Britain. Chris Bavin will be appearing again later in the day, at 1pm, on the festival’s demonstration stage in Jubilee Square.
The showcase will also feature Chris Howard, Chair of Visit Surrey, and Rebecca Younger, Editor of Surrey life Magazine, sharing their thoughts about the value of the industry to Surrey’s economy, and the accolades available to growers and producers to help them raise their profile more widely.
Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Promoting the Local Economy, Cllr Kevin Davis, said: “I am delighted that the Woking Works business event will be opening our award-winning festival again this year. This partnership between the council and leading local firms supports a wide range of businesses, from start ups to established concerns, and many of these are in the food and drink sector. Part of Woking’s success story in recent years is the welcome development of this part of our visitor economy. I encourage residents and visitors alike to experience this showcase to find out more about the thriving food and drink scene in Surrey.”
