Certain types of businesses situated in rural villages with a population of less than 3,000 residents may qualify for 100% rate relief.
This only applies if it is:
- the only general store, post office or food shop in the village with a rateable value of less than £8,500
- the only pub or petrol filling station in the village with a rateable value of up to £12,500.
We have the discretionary authority to exclude all or part of the business rates bill on other properties in a rural village, if the rateable value does not exceed £16,500, and we’re satisfied that the property is used for purposes which benefit the local community.
