Borough residents who are not already registered to vote and wish to vote in the forthcoming UK Parliamentary election on Thursday 12 December 2019 have until Tuesday 26 November 2019 to register.

To vote in the UK Parliamentary election, residents must be 18 years of age (on the day of the election), a UK, Irish or Commonwealth citizen and live in Woking borough.
Residents can register to vote by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. Residents who are unsure if they are already registered can check their current electoral status by phoning the council’s Electoral Services Team on 01483 755 855.

Once registration is complete, residents who are unable to vote in person at their local polling station can apply for a postal vote. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday 26 November 2019.

For residents who are unable to vote, they can appoint someone to vote on their behalf. This is called a ‘proxy vote’. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 4 December 2019.

Speaking about the forthcoming election, Ray Morgan, Woking’s Acting Returning Officer, said: “I encourage everyone who is eligible to register to vote to do so as early as possible.”
